Valorization of Solid Food Waste as a Source of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Using Aurantiochytrium sp. L3W

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study aimed at valorizing solid food waste containing docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA). Aurantiochytrium sp. L3W that produces DHA EPA was cultivated on eight types of waste: sake lees (SL), crown daisy, Japanese mustard spinach (JMS), soy sauce residue, lemon peel (LP), orange peel, grape skin, Hiroshimana old pickle (HOP). The biomass mixture the remaining strain analyzed for EPA. To characterize waste, leachability dissolved organic carbon (DOC) nitrogen (DN) compared. grew both pasteurized unsterilized such as SL JMS. Elution DOC DN from might be a factor affecting growth L3W. However, utilize solid-state compounds in Despite unsterile conditions, contained EPA, whereas found mixtures JMS, LP HOP, thereby confirming valorization these waste. Unsterile mass cultivation using HOP 200 L tank also produced 12.6 mg-DHA/g 0.217 mg-EPA/g. These contents were 1500-times 37-times higher, respectively, than commercial poultry feed, indicating could used an additive feed.

Utilization of waste syrup for production of polyunsaturated fatty acids and xanthophylls by Aurantiochytrium.

In the food industry, syrups containing a high concentration of sugar used for fruit preservation is abundantly discharged as a food processing waste and disposed by incineration, resulting in the rise of the manufacturing cost and environmental pollution. This study demonstrates how waste syrup can be utilized as carbon source for production of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and astaxanthin by the...

Metabolic Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Chickens: A Review

Chicken has been used as a suitable model for lipid metabolism studies, because dietary modifications especially dietary fat type can change chicken body composition. Fats act as a condense source of energy and certain fatty acids such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are required for both animal and human health. The n-3 PUFAs, especially, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic ...

Production of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids by Mucor recurvus sp. with Sugarcane Molasses as the Carbon Source

Sugarcane molasses is rich in nutriments and vitamins. It may be used as the carbon source for the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) by Mucor recurvus sp. Using sugarcane molasses, the effects of fermentation parameters and media components on polyunsaturated fatty acid production through both linear and orthogonal array experiments were investigated. The best fermentation condit...

Enriched eggs as a source of N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids for humans.

Dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) decreases the risk of heart disease, inhibits the growth of prostate and breast cancer, delays the loss of immunological functions, and is required for normal fetal brain and visual development. The US has not established a recommended daily intake for n-3 PUFA. However, Canada has established the Canadian Recommended Nutrient Intake (CRNI) at 0....
